Phobia: can people overcome it?

 



Have you ever been scared of something? Have you ever felt overwhelming fear for a living creatures or a object? Have ever been on a situation or a place where you were having a panic attack? If yes, then have you ever tried to know the reason behind this or tried to understand your problem? We people are so busy with our day to day life that things like this does not feel like a serious issue. We tend to ignore it or act like nothing happened but we go through the same feeling again and again. It is time for us to embrace our difficulties and acknowledge it as an important issue.

What is Phobia?

An extreme fear for a object, animal, situation or place that can cause a person to get a panic attack is called a Phobia. Phobia is an irrational fear that can not be controlled. People who have phobias describe it as an overwhelming anxiety which is uncontrollable and can be triggered by any particular thing. There are more than 400 phobias and the most commonly known phobias among them are-

Phobia is a type of mental disorder that causes you to have anxiety attack. People have many conception about this disorder. They believe it is same as normal fear and those who are suffering from it are just overreacting. They also believe that this fear will go away when they grow up. However, they react the same way every time they are facing their phobias and those people have no control over it.

In our society people try to avoid any type of conversation that talks about mental health and any kind of mental disorder. Therefore, people who suffers from different types of phobias try their best to not to pay any attention to it or force themselves to overcome it. But instead of curing the phobia they end up making it extremely severe.

How to overcome our Phobias 

Best way to overcome the fears and anxiety attacks is to consult with a psychiatrist. But if you are not comfortable with this solution. You can always try overcome it by yourself. The first thing you need is to believe in yourself and encourage yourself to face your fears. Phobia is not something thing that can go away without a treatment, you have to give you time and effort to fully recover from it. The next thing you should do is to go through social media and talk to people who suffers from similar situation, go to group session and share your experiences. The last thing you can do is to learn some breathing exercises, which will help you while you are having your anxiety attack. It is also important to surround yourself with supportive family and friends. But you should always prepare yourself for the worst. Because most of the phobia can be treated successfully, but there are some complex phobia which needs a lot of therapy.
